DULWICH HILL APARTMENTS

I took over a complex project for a small development of six apartments above a ground-floor retail unit on a constrained Inner West site, redesigning the concept to address prior council feedback and resolve issues in an earlier proposal. To meet the council’s requirements for the heritage conservation area, I retained the existing street facade, preserving its contribution to the streetscape. I also reworked the design to fully comply with the NSW Apartment Design Guide, tackling site-specific challenges, including limited daylight access due to dense surroundings, lack of off-street parking, and the need to carefully balance privacy and visual amenity between apartments. The final design not only aligned with the client’s vision but also satisfied council regulations, achieving a successful balance of heritage respect and modern functionality.
